Study Abroad

The cross-cultural and international component of the Performance Studies Department makes study abroad an appealing and logical pursuit for a number of students in the program. Working with Northwestern's Study Abroad Office, students have pursued summer and semester abroad programs. Among recent excursions are the following:

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Mali to study West African dance
  • Marrakesh, Morocco, to observe traditional storytelling
  • India to study Buddhist meditation practices
  • The University of Witswatersrand in South Africa as part of the program "Poetry and Performance: Spoken Word Theatre"
  • Edinburgh, Scotland to perform in the Fringe Festival
  • Paris, France to study at the Ecole International de Theatre Jacques Lecoq
  • Kampala, Uganda with Northwestern's Public Health Program
  • Finally, one student received an award from the Circumnavigators Club that enabled him to travel for 5 months, touring a one-man show and learning about the impacts of globalization, visiting (among other places) Hanoi, Vietnam; Bangkok, Thailand; Delhi, India; Johannesburg, South Africa; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Quito, Ecuador; Mexico City, Mexico
