AuD and MSSLL Student Resources

The following are basic technology resources and requirements for the Doctor of Audiology and Master’s in Speech, Language, and Learning programs, as well as the Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, and Learning (NUCASLL).

How to Reach IT Support

School technical support:

  • Hours of operation are:
    • Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
    • Saturday and Sunday: Closed
    • Closed on weekends, during Winter Recess, and on all University holidays.

Computing Requirements

Hardware Requirements

To enroll and participate in the Audiology and Speech Language and Learning programs, students must use a laptop computer (PC or Mac) with at least:

  • CPU processor Intel i5 or equivalent or above to support the operating system and applications
  • 8 GB of memory (RAM) or more
  • 512 GB or larger storage or additional external storage may be needed for course-related files
  • Internal or external webcam with integrated microphone
  • Audio output device to play sound

Software and Technology Information and Resources

DUO

DUO authentication is a cloud-based identity security solution that uses two-factor authentication to protect online accounts and resources. DUO authentication is required for AuD and SLL students, faculty, and staff at Northwestern University.

M365 Account Sign-In

Microsoft 365 is available to all students for both PC and Mac upon registering for a class in the current or following academic term.

Sign-in to Microsoft (M365) account using your student NetID or primary Northwestern email address and password. The user account and password was provided during the enrollment process.

Global Protect VPN

Global Protect VPN is a remote access and network security system that provides an encrypted, secure, virtual tunnel between the student device and Northwestern University network.

Wireless Network Connection

eduroam is the campus wireless network at Northwestern University. Northwestern participates in eduroam (education roaming), a secure federated wireless network for the international research and education community.

nucasll is the dedicated wireless network at the Northwestern NUCASLL building and available on the basement level of the Frances Searle building. The nucasll wireless network is the required connection when working at the NUCASLL clinic and classroom. To connect, select the Wi-Fi name “nucasll” in place of “eduroam”

NUCASLL SharePoint

SharePoint is a Microsoft web-based platform used to store, organize, and share documents and information, acting as a collaborative tool and a central hub for content management. Access to the NUCASLL (AuD and MS SLL) SharePoint site is by invitation only and will be provide by the assigned faculty member.

Video Audio Learning Tool (VALT)

The VALT system is a powerful software that makes it simple to capture, manage, stream, observe and search for audio/video content of patient sessions for educational purposes.

Remote Desktop Connection (RDP)

RDP is a Microsoft protocol that allows students to connect to a Northwestern remote computer from their own computer through the university network.  An RDP connection is required to sign-in to the Electronic Health System called, HearForm.

Username: soc\NetID
Password: [enter the NetID password]
