2024 Northwestern Tony Award Nominees
Willie, meet Tony.
A wellspring of Wildcats was nominated for the 77th Tony Awards, as announced on April 30.
Highly notable School of Communication nods include Brian D’Arcy James (C90), nominated for best leading actor in a musical for his role in Days of Wine and Roses, and Michael Greif (C81), nominated for best direction of a musical for Hell’s Kitchen, which was also nominated for best new musical.
These nominations mark the fifth time both D'Arcy James and Greif have been up for a Tony Award.
Water for Elephants is nominated for best new musical and stars both Stan Brown, the W. Rockwell Wirtz Professor in the Department of Theatre, as Camel and Gregg Edelman (C80) as Mr. Jankowski.
Mary Jane is nominated for best new play and features Lily Santiago (C18) as Amelia/Kat. Cabaret, nominated for best musical revival, includes Chloe Nadon-Enriquez (C19) as a swing.
Outside of the School of Communication, Whitney White (WCAS08) is nominated for best direction of a play for Jaja's African Hair Braiding, which is also nominated for best play. Eric Stine (WCAS94) was nominated as a co-producer for The Outsiders, which was nominated for 12 awards including best new play. And Will Butler (WCAS05) is nominated for best original score for Stereophonic.
The 2024 Tony Awards ceremony will air live on CBS on Sunday, June 16 at the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater in New York City.
