Xiaowei Wang
Xiaowei R. Wang is an artist, writer, organizer and coder. They are the author of the book Blockchain Chicken Farm: And Other Stories of Tech In China's Countryside , a 2023 National Book Foundation Science and Literature Award winner. Their multidisciplinary work over the past 15 years sits at the intersection of tech, digital media, art, and environmental justice. Prior to Northwestern they were a faculty member at ELISAVA’s  Master in Design for Responsible AI, and a Postdoctoral Scholar at the UCLA  Center on Race and Digital Justice . In 2024 they were an  Eyebeam Democracy Machine  Fellow, which supported their work with forms of soft data storage and transmission through textiles, working in collaboration with David Rios of NYU's ITP program. Xiaowei has shown work and given talks internationally at places including SFMOMA, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Palazzo San Giuseppe Polignano a Mare, Taipei Design City Exhibition, Beijing Design Week, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, IxDA Switzerland and more.
