There are two types of graduation ceremonies at Northwestern: NU Commencement and the school Convocations.
- Commencement is the university-wide event held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Ryan Field.
- Convocations are the school-specific events. The School of Communication Convocations will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Pick Staiger Concert Hall.
The School of Communication conducts its Convocation in two ceremonies. Students participate in the convocation dedicated to their primary major. The ceremonies will be divided as noted:
- 1:30 p.m. – Radio, Television & Film, Dance, Performance Studies, and Theatre
- 5:00 p.m. – Communication Studies and Communication Sciences and Disorders
All students are required to wear caps and gowns for both events. During the School of Communication Convocation, each graduate will be photographed as they are congratulated by School of Communication Dean, Barbara O’Keefe.
Each senior who attends the 2017 Northwestern Commencement ceremony will receive 10 admission tickets to the University Wide Commencement and 5 tickets for guests to the School of Communication Convocation Ceremony. (Graduating students do not require a ticket.) Tickets guarantee admission, but do not reserve specific seats. Tickets to both events will be distributed via University Online Tickets in late April or early May. A limited number of additional tickets will be available on the online ticketing system. Students can reserve up to 2 additional tickets, if available, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Graduates will pick up their cap and gown in early June.
