Vanessa Champagne advises undergraduate students in the dance and theatre departments. She supports students in the theatre major and dance major and minor. Her professional and academic work focuses on student development, education equity, and learning through service and in community.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, Vanessa worked in French Guyana where she partnered with instructors to develop curriculums that reflect students’ diverse cultural backgrounds and learning needs. Her commitment to community engagement deepened in her work at Lady Doak College in India where she directed a center focused on intercultural dialogue and managed a service-learning program. She also taught classes on performance in sacred traditions in the African Diaspora where students explored constructions of spiritual communion through rhythms, movement, and rituals. When she is not working, Vanessa enjoys dancing with West African dance communities in the Chicago area.
